Spring is always a season filled with inspiration. This year it was even more exciting with a wonderful trip to Holland with The Flower School New York. My friends at the Flower School asked (last year) if I would join in as a special guest teacher for a workshop in Holland. It was hard to refuse a trip to Amsterdam in late spring and the city certainly did not disappoint.

Before my class at the end of the week we toured many incredible locations in Amsterdam and neighboring cities. The Flower Auction at Aalsmeer was amazing and I will never forget the endless sea of cut flowers and plants being carried through the terminal on tracks and fast moving carts. We enjoyed a cruise on the canals, spent time in the Rijkesmuseum, learned how to make floral/herbal infused cocktails, toured an incredible family owned lilac farm and enjoyed many fun evenings out in the city. One of my favorite meals was at Le Garage which is definitely an Amsterdam hot spot!
I enjoyed meeting each of the incredible floral designers, flower lovers and travel enthusiasts who joined in for my class and the Flower School NY adventure. I decided to use one of my favorite paintings by Vermeer as our inspiration for my class and our color palette was so gorgeous and quintessentially Dutch. There is nothing like vibrant Vermeer color. His paintings are always my favorite and a must see at the Rijksmuseum. I taught my class outdoors on a lovely terrace at the College Hotel in Amsterdam. Some of the attendees were wonderful, passionate and talented designers from all over including Heather Thomas from Ohio, Pina Cate from Mexico, Sullivan Owen from Philadelphia and Rutger Mulder from Amsterdam!
Check out the fun photos from the trip and have a look at FlowerSchoolNY for other classes and trips they are planning. I'm also working on plans for my very own "Inspired" Design workshop in Italy for next Spring and I will be sure to keep everyone posted as the details come together! I found my interaction with everyone in my workshop to be one of the most inspiring segments of the trip. I really enjoyed answering questions, sharing inspiration and just making gorgeous arrangements featuring incredible Dutch blooms with Amsterdam as our backdrop!
Travel is still my number one source of inspiration. Are you planning a trip for the summer months? Even if you are only going to a nearby city or state remember a little adventure is always a great way to clear your mind and trigger new ideas! Enjoy!
