My name is Esther, and I am very excited to be participating in this amazing opportunity with Martha Stewart Weddings and Invisalign! I was born and raised in New Jersey, but was fortunate enough to travel extensively after college, teaching elementary school in London and Turkey. After teaching overseas, I lived and worked in New York City and have now been in Washington, D.C. for the past four years. I moved to D.C. to pursue work in international development, and am currently working as an education research analyst for a government contractor. Moving to D.C. was particularly auspicious since that is where I met my fiancé, Sawyer—we actually met as complete strangers at a bar soon after we both moved to D.C. We chatted, he got my number, he texted me, and now here we are planning our wedding!
We will be getting married in May 2014 at Little Seneca Creek Lodge, which is just a short car ride from Washington, D.C. Sawyer and I love the outdoors and really want nature to provide the backdrop to our ceremony. We are planning to have the ceremony outside on the tree-lined meadow behind the lodge. The reception will take place inside the log cabin-style lodge, which is beautifully accented with high ceilings and a fireplace. I guess you could call it rustic, but I’m still trying to figure out the theme of the wedding. We do know that we want to party with our friends and family, so we will be having dinner, drinks (including our own special cocktails), and dancing.
As a bride-to-be, I know how it feels to want to look your absolute best. I’m really looking forward to the Invisalign treatment because I have long been a little self-conscious about my smile. (Please note that I have received complimentary Invisalign treatment in exchange for sharing my experiences.) I have a moderate overbite and my lower teeth are quite crooked. While you can’t really tell from far away and in posed shots, I find it’s pretty noticeable in close-ups and candid shots. I expect that our photographer will be capturing a lot of candid moments and emotions, and I don’t want to be shy about being photographed, or be embarrassed of any of our photos afterwards. I’ve already been informed by my Invisalign provider that it should take under a year to straighten my overbite and about a year to straighten my lower teeth, so the timing is perfect. And of course, to complement my newly straightened smile, I am planning on trying out a whitening treatment for the first time.
My wedding provides the perfect opportunity to try many other things that I have never, or rarely, done before. Believe it or not, I have only gotten my eyebrows threaded once in my life and never waxed. I want to try getting them threaded again to figure out what makes me most comfortable. I have never received a facial either, so I will be trying a professional facial at least once and working on my daily skincare routine a bit more. To maximize my sparse eyelashes, I plan to get eyelash extensions or experiment with false eyelashes. And I have already chosen a beautiful wedding gown, but it is strapless—another first for me— so I will be particularly focused on toning my arms through yoga and strength classes, while keeping up with my regular runs. I have yet to figure out what I will be doing for my hair and make-up, but I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences with you!
