You've seen some behind-the-scenes photos from our coverage of Marnie and Jamie's New Year's Eve wedding in our Real Weddings issue. Well for the next few days, the bride and a couple of her vendors, will show even more of this memorable bash and the inspiration, ideas, and creativity that made it truly special.
First up, Marnie gives you closer look at the resolution wall below. All photos by Belathee Photography.
Last year, Jamie and I made the most romantic New Year’s resolution of all—to get married on New Year’s Eve! To help our wedding guests find their own intentions for 2012, we worked with Cherry Berry Paper to create a wall filled with options. We asked guests to “take a resolution” from a wall of envelopes, and “make a resolution” for us in a nearby guestbook.
The idea for the wall struck me while browsing Cheree’s Facebook photos. I stumbled on a snapshot of an envelope installation Cheree designed for the Kate Spade store in St. Louis; I asked if we could create something similar. While I wrote resolutions, Cheree designed a colorful envelope scheme with a sweet hidden message. (See the M+J?) Although it appears as though we spent days painstakingly measuring between these envelopes with tiny rulers, thankfully, that was not the case. Cheree created a vinyl transfer that mapped the grid perfectly. How clever is that? Each card was topped with “I Resolve” in John DeCollibus’s incredible calligraphy.
The result proved to be every bit as much fun as we imagined. Our guests ran back-and-forth to the wall all night long, and reported the results as solemnly as if it were an oracle. Although I knew I'd written the resolutions, on our wedding night, even I fell into thinking they were penned by destiny for just the right guest. My dad, proudly bald, chose “Get a shocking haircut.” My gorgeous single girlfriend, who we'd seated next to Jamie’s equally gorgeous single guyfriend, selected “Kiss big.” (They did—and still are!) My handsome groom pulled a personal joke I’d written just for him—“Edit your Netflix queue.” And as for me, the bride who convinced her parents to install a massive wall of resolutions? Well, I got “Splurge!”
