Real Weddings: Lauren and Benjamin

Posted by

Lauren and Benjamin's DIY wedding in Indianapolis was the perfect seasonal celebration. Aside from that lovely photo up top (reminds me of the last scene of the Kiera Knightly "Pride and Prejudice" movie), there were some other truly special touches that would make Jane Austen proud.

Benjamin and Lauren exchanged letters at the rehearsal dinner to be read the next morning. In Benjamin's letter to Lauren, he included a single, delicate button. Since she was a little girl, the bride had collected antique buttons for her "button string"—a Victorian tradition in which a girl collects 999 buttons and is given her 1000th button by he husband on their wedding day.

Another fun British touch? The bride dreamed up her wedding dress with help from her great aunt. Lauren's mom joked that with the looming royal wedding, wouldn't it be funny if the duchess-to-be had a similar gown. Sure enough, she did. Lauren took their shared love of delicate lace sleeves and v-neck bodice as a compliment. We agree!

The thoughtful groom gifted his groomsmen with Timex Camper watches, and didn't forget their ring bearer, who received a Transformers watch. The blushing bride gave her girls pashminas to keep warm.
