Posted by Cari Wolfert

Inspired by Erin's blog post about a nail-art bachelorette party she attended, I decided to try my hand at painting eye-catching nails -- on my own hand. It was actually easier than I thought! In just a few simple steps, I had a salon-worthy manicure. Follow the steps below to achieve this fun look:

Pick out three colors (I used polishes by Essie: Blanc, Turquoise & Caicos, and Lilacism).

Clip nails to desired length, buff, and file into shape. Then apply two coats of your base color -- in your finished manicure, it'll be the shade that appears in the bottom left corner of your nails.

Wait about five minutes for your base color to dry, then use your next color (this will be the middle stripe) and make a diagonal stroke across your nails.

Wait another five minutes, then apply your final color to the corner of your nail. Don't worry if some polish gets on your cuticles or skin -- you can always dip a cotton swab in nail polish remover to clean up any rough edges.

Apply a clear top coat to seal in the layers of polish and add shine. The final result!
