Real Weddings: Vanessa and Gavin

Posted by

When I first saw the ceremony location for this wedding, I did a double-take. It looked like something out of a dream. I quickly realized it was actually an amazing wedding set in a tropical paradise, full of sophistication, elegance, and a relaxed island sensibility, that merged together to create a fantasy-like affair.

Vanessa and Gavin wed last April in Turks and Caicos. Not only did the bride and groom plan three days of festivities, they welcomed their guests with thought and care. On the first night, guests received island survival bags complete with snorkel gear, sarongs, sunscreen, insect repellent, and underwater cameras. The following night, fresh-baked cookies and milk with personalized notes from “Ness and Gav” popped up in their rooms.

Photographer Ira Lippke was there to capture everything from the welcome dinner to the beach party to the wedding -- all designed by Special Occasions Event Planning. Tomorrow, you'll get to see rest of their incredible weekend.

Adam Sjoberg, also from Ira Lippke Studios, was on hand, too. He created the wedding video below.

  • I love the opening scenes in black and white, it really sets off the film very romantically!

  • This wedding looks AMAZING!!!! Not only is the setting gorgeous (not to mention the bride and groom!), but the attention to detail is stunning. What lucky guests!!!

  • [...] If I had been short-sighted about wedding photography, I would have made a terrible mistake. That is the ultimate example. Most photographers don’t view wedding photography as glamorous, and therefore are ashamed to say it’s a part of their repertoire, and don’t work very hard to improve their wedding portfolios even if they’re shooting, say, ten weddings a year. But I fell into wedding photography early on, and instead of seeing it as simply a way to transition into something else, I really tried to do outstanding work. And now, after photographing 30 weddings this year alone, I can personally fund projects that I really care about—hence the 8 weeks of travel this winter. And in the meantime, I’ve had the privilege of shooting some amazing weddings at the Plaza Hotel, the Metropolitan club, among other venues, and at exotic locations around the world (Beijing, Turks & Caicos, Brazil). Shooting weddings has been an excellent way to hone my skills while earning an income that supports all kinds of other personal projects I care about. And I’m going to be published in a couple nationally syndicated magazines this spring. (A couple of those outlets included Vera Wang and Martha Stewart.) [...]
