Pink Plus Week: SIMPLESONG Design

Posted by

Our last installment of our special week of "pink plus" palette ideas is from designer extraordinaire Suann Song of SIMPLESONG Design, a boutique design and letterpress studio located in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Her studio is located at The Hive at 1511, where she also offers letterpress workshops.

Suann loves minimal and modern designs with touches of vintage whimsy, and that's reflected in her work. Here, she created a few welcome box ideas, all within a pink and copper palette. And fellow resident of The Hive, Kate Headley, snapped these photos for us.

I loved the pink and copper palette in the most recent MSW issue and thought it would be fun to create a simple but sophisticated welcome box for out-of-town wedding guests. It's an easy way to make out-of-town guests feel at homeand to carry over your wedding colors.

I started with a simple wood box and lined it with Martha Stewart paper, both found at my local Michael's craft store. I then gathered things I thought would be useful and enjoyable for out-of-town guests, including a weekend schedule and list of local attractions, Metro passes, a Metro map, French macarons made by a local pastry chef, and M&M's in the pink and copper color theme. Everything was pulled together with glassine or cellophane bags and custom labels (see template). When completed, the finished box not only looks elegant, but only costs about $15!

Materials:

- Wood box from local craft store lined with Martha Stewart Crafts paper

- Double-face satin ribbon

- Glassine and/or cellophane bags

- Paper for printing (I like a heavy textured paper like Paper Source's luxe)

- Double-stick tape to affix tags
