The final segment in this series (don't worry -- I'm already planning the next one!) of three beauty spots worth checking out for the big day: Salon Mario Russo, a gorgeous salon on Newbury Street that's known for its flawless cuts and color, chic styling, and bridal hair and makeup. Our reviewer? The lovely Emily, who popped in for cut and color on a snowy day last week.
"The moment I entered the 3rd floor salon I was greeted by the front desk staff, who took my coat and offered me a drink. Sal, a senior stylist, came to meet me and escorted me to his chair for a cut consultation. He spent a few minutes explaining how he'd keep the length of my hair while reducing the heaviness of it, and then I went up to the color floor to meet Heidi, an expert colorist.I hadn't colored my hair in over a year, so I wanted to brighten up the blonde while keeping the base color natural enough to avoid monthly touch-ups. She knew exactly what I was talking about and even mixed up a second color to use on some of the darker sections. After the hour-long highlight process (she was very thorough!), we went behind the beaded curtain to the shampoo station, where Heidi applied a gloss before shampooing. She explained that a gloss treatment is especially nice for brides, since the extra shine comes through in the pictures.
When the color was done, I was brought back downstairs to Sal. He cleaned up the ends, then used a razor to add some new layers and take out some of the heaviness. After he dried it, he went back and did a quick dry cut to perfect what he'd done. Overall, I was totally thrilled. The blonde is super, super natural, just how I like it, and I can already tell that it will grow out really nicely, without massive roots. And the cut is exactly what I was looking for -- a low-maintenance style with some movement around my face. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a really pampering experience with great results.
