I can't believe it. I'm a bride!
As thirty-somethings living in New York City, we really never thought about a huge wedding. Instead we're planning a small wedding with big style...in under four months. (Long courtship, short engagement, pretty wedding!) Our take on wedding planning has been pretty simple, focus only on what we're excited about. Formal church setting, yes. Pretty dress, absolutely. Cake, probably not. We're even skipping a few things all together, flowers and favors to name two. But the focus actually frees us (and our bank accounts) to make plans, big beautiful plans, for the elements that we really care about...
For me it's always been about throwing a delicious and festive dinner party. But I'm not interested guests doing the Y-M-C-A at a reception, so we're just skipping a band altogether. Instead we're hosting a 6-course tasting menu with wine parings at one of New York's landmark restaurants, One if By Land, Two if By Sea. I'm a cook, our friends love good food and wine...it's perfect. (And turned out to be less expensive than catering for an event space!)
Next up, choosing the invitations. The deadline is tonight. Again, since we're hosting a small event for 45, mostly family and close friends, we've got the luxury of picking something lovely without breaking the bank. Kate Spade's designs are so sophisticated but quirky. I'm in. The only question is about the color combination. I'm inclined to do the white with black, and a green lining on the envelopes. Groom thinks it's a bit too colorful...

I'm partial to the second design. My friends just threw an engagement party for me and use this invitation. Mine had the green lined envelope with black flowers. I thought it was classic with a twist and fit me to a T.

Awesome invitations! And they are not too colorful...tell your groom it's this or all pink!

I love the delicate vine motif--it's classic like a floral pattern but still unexpected. Congratulations!

What a great color combination and going simple and doing what you love for your wedding is the best way! That's what I did and it was great. I really love the floral pattern in the second invitation.
