Songs for a farm wedding (or if you just need a break from winter blah)

Posted By Julie Vadnal On January 19, 2014 @ 1:21 pm In Inspiration | 2 Comments

I get it—it’s the middle of winter, but hey, I need this, a playlist that has me imagining verdant fields, blossoming wildflowers, lazy cows grazing, and oh-so-glorious sunshine! And if you’re feeling like me, and also coincidentally planning a rustic farm celebration, here are some acoustic melodies and twangy beats to go with your day, from the ceremony to the cake cutting.

White Winter Hymnal [2]” – Fleet Foxes
Even though this song has “winter” in it’s title, it’s a summery tambourine jam filled with the Seattle band’s honey-like harmonies. Try it pre-ceremony or during the procession.

Hard Sun [3]” – Eddie Vedder
I also like this one for a procession, mostly because of it’s hand-clappy chorus and the opening lyrics: “When I stand beside her / I am a better man.” And, because, well, Eddie Vedder.

Ho Hey [4]” – The Lumineers
You’ve heard this song everywhere—in commercials, on the radio, at CVS, parodied on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon—and it’s nearly impossible not to toe-tap along with its infectious chorus. I love it as a recessional. And so will your guests.

Everyman Needs A Companion [5]” - Father John Misty
This Southern-tinged folk ditty has an even tempo that’s ideal for cocktail hour sippin’ – you’re serving whiskey lemonade, right? It always sways just right for a first dance.

Creepin’ In [6]” – Norah Jones featuring Dolly Parton
Another solid cocktail-hour choice. Your loved ones won’t be able to resist this zippy acoustic number featuring one of country music’s high-priestesses.

That’s What’s Up [7]” – Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
If an upbeat first dance song is more your style, this energetic option from this fun-loving indie band has an insanely fun a cappella sequence. You’ll have your entire party clapping along to the beat.

Heart Of Gold [8]” - Neil Young
It’s tough to top this harmonica-filled hit, no matter where you wed. Consider it for your first dance, or when you need a break from high-energy dance hits.

If I Needed You [9]” – Andrew Bird
This version of the decades-old tune starts off with strings and melds into a beautiful harmony of voices—it’d be great for father-daughter dance.

Live and Die [10]” – The Avett Brothers
Lyrics like “You and I / We’re the same / You rejoice, I complain / But you and I,  we’re the same,” not only make this song great for cake-cutting, but also just plain adorable.
