A HUGE congratulations to Vera Wang who was presented the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award by the CFDA last night. Vera is a legend and inspiration to many but especially those of us in the wedding industry. When my sister got married over 21 years ago, I went with her to the Vera Wang store on Madison Avenue and the experience was a total dream. For the past 18 years at Martha Stewart Weddings, I have taken countless brides shopping there (Michelle Levinson, Annette Lauer, and others) and the dream lives on. Vera is a leader to our industry; forward thinking, modern, cool, fashionable and she never forgets what a wedding is about, romance. It's been incredible to see her brand evolve and we've been privileged to feature her gowns, her china, her accessories and the world of Vera (including her Davids Bridal line which offers the best in bridal fashion, at great prices). I was thrilled to be able to celebrate with her last night (editor in chief Elizabeth Graves and I stayed up past our bedtime—I haven't been invited to a lot of parties recently that start at 10 p.m. at The Four Seasons restaurant). This was particularly fitting for me because I got married there in a Vera Wang gown and as I tell Vera after every one of her shows, she outdoes herself every time. She just keeps getting better and better. Still, 12 years later (and after having seen 10,0000s of dresses), if I were to pick a gown today I would definitely wear my same Vera dress. From all of us at Weddings, thank you, Vera for being such an incredible inspiration to all of us and for making weddings (and so many brides) look so good.
