So You Think You Can Dance

Posted by

A few months ago, my friend Abby told me about a dance class she religiously attends every week. A cardio class set to Broadway showtunes. I'm no lover of the gym, so when I found out about it, I was instantly interested in this alternative fitness option. Since then, I've been hooked, regularly sweating it out to songs I love, regardless of the fact that I'm a pretty lame dancer.

Broadway Bodies, the company that offers this high-impact class, recently expanded from New York to Los Angeles. The bi-coastal program offers choreographed classes taught by the dancers who are actually cast in big productions. Not into Broadway? Consider Michael Jackson Mondays or the Wednesday class where all routines are set to songs from Glee. It's the kind of thing that you'll actually enjoy when you're working on getting fit for the big day. Classes are $15 if you buy a 10-class card. Hey, just because you're trying to get fit for the big day doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself!

Broadway Bodies also offers private classes; book two sessions with a pro to teach you and your fiance how to master your first dance. No matter the genre (you can choose anything from the Waltz to swing to hip-hop), they've got you covered.

Or get the girls together. It's a fun activity for a bachelorette weekend (haven't you always wanted to conquer Beyonce's "Single Ladies" or learn a special dance to surprise your guests at your reception?). Gather up to 20 friends, pick your song, and get ready for a good time. It's $450 for the whole thing, including two hours of instruction, the studio rental, and the professional instructor.
