We have traveled a lot of places together and we knew that we wanted our honeymoon to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip. After looking around, we decided that the Mediterranean was the best fit for the time of year and the trip that we wanted. We booked a 16-day trip including a 10-day cruise through the Italian coast and the French Riviera. We flew into Venice, which was by far one of our favorite cities, and spent a few days exploring. We stayed at the San Clemente Palace, which we absolutely loved. The hotel is located in the lagoon on a private island which felt remote but it was a short boat ride form the city. We loved that Venice was a completely pedestrian city where getting lost was half the fun. We boarded a cruise in Venice that took us through Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, the Amalfi Coast, Sicily, Florence, and Monaco before heading back to Rome.
One tip that we would have for anyone considering this option is to book a cruise that is "port intensive" or has overnight stays in a couple of cities. Our boat was in port 12 hours or more most days which allowed us to spend a decent amount of time in each city. We really liked most of our destinations but one of our favorites would be the Amalfi Coast where we visited the city of Ravello—a small cliff-top village. The scenery was truly amazing. We also loved Monaco. The old buildings, the grandeur of the casino, and the beauty of the coastline made it special as well. Finally, we were blown away by the beauty of Montenegro, its coastline, and the historic buildings within the UNESCO heritage site. The food, weather, and people were all amazing and we couldn't have been happier with our trip.
