Every year at the Martha Stewart Weddings bridal market party we try to think of a clever gift that will inspire our industry friends and brides alike. Last year we offered custom perfumes and previously we’ve had lovely little muslin lavender sachets and personalized letterpress bookmarks.
This year we were inspired by the fashionable string bracelets and necklaces that we are seeing in our favorite shops, and we decided to make wedding-themed necklaces for guests. We had fun picking out charms on Etsy including champagne bottles, engagement rings, hearts, keys, and a wedding cake. Not only was our white string in honor of the “white” party theme this year, it also is a symbol of friendship used for Buddhist bracelets—perfect!
After tying about 1,000 necklaces in our office we can offer a few tips for making the perfect charm necklace. First, tie your charm in place before creating the adjustable closure; it will hang straight and centered. Finish off your necklace or bracelet with a sliding knot—the tie is both adjustable and neat. And don’t forget to make sure your string fits through the tiny holes of the charms!
