October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

A few weeks ago, a good friend invited me to a tea party in honor of The Avon Foundation and its CEO, Carol Kurzig. Santa Barbara (where my family and I now live) is host to one of the 9 annual walks that take place throughout the country. My friend, Hollye Jacobs, is herself now a 2-year survivor of breast cancer (!), and the creator of an inspirational, funny (when necessary), informative, compassionate, and silver-lined blog, The Silver Pen. The party was just a way to spend a lovely afternoon with girlfriends learning a little about the foundation and also about tea. Hollye had a tea expert (yes, this is a true job title!) come in and tell us all about the teas that were being offered and some fascinating information about where tea comes from, how to properly make it, and a few of her secret tricks of the trade. It really was such a special afternoon full of information, inspiration, and tea!

Tea experts live all around the country and I think one would be a wonderful addition to a bridal shower tea.
