Few brands are synonymous with a color or have been immortalized in literature, but then again there are few brands that are quite as special as Tiffany & Co. This September the jewelry house celebrates it 175th anniversary. While a trip through their doors will reveal a bevy of beautiful jewels and precious housewares, most girls dream of their piece of Tiffany coming in a small and rectangular robin's egg blue box presented in the hands of the man they love. It's no wonder since the jewelry house has been creating gorgeous engagement rings since it debuted its iconic Tiffany Setting in 1886. That's when Charles Lewis Tiffany introduced the style which lifted the stone above the band with six prongs so more light could pass through it, resulting in a never-before-seen sparkle. While the classic Tiffany Setting is still the jewelry house's top-selling ring, they now also boast nine other gorgeous settings. Click through to the sideshow to see historical sketches as well as some of our favorite designs.
This original sketch of the Tiffany Setting looks just as modern today as it did in 1886, the year it debuted.
Featuring a simple but incredibly sophisticated six-prong solitaire, the setting was created to show off the brilliance of the stone it holds.
Though it is over 125 years old, the Tiffany Setting remains the jeweler's number one seller year after year and has become an icon for its understated yet formal beauty.
This detailed sketch of various diamond engagement rings (c. 1896) was sent to Mr. William E of Maryland, who had requested a selection of rings that he might consider for his engagement.
The Tiffany Legacy features a cushion modified brilliant cut diamond in a lavish diamond-encrusted setting. We adore its vintage feel.
