Something gold, something new...

Posted by

I know, I know, it's "something old." But I love all things gold, so let's fake it for the sake of this post. Back when I was planning my wedding, I was thisclose to buying a gorgeous metallic gold Ralph Lauren gown. But then my fiance made a comment about how he couldn't wait to "see me in my beautiful white dress," and I reconsidered—I didn't want to ruin the moment for him.

That said, sometimes I regret not going for it. Gold is every bit as neutral as white, and it can be super elegant if you do it right. (The key is to keep the rest of your wedding palette neutral—I love the idea of crisp, clean gold and white, for example). Like the idea? Check out a few of my favorite gold styles...

This one is every bit as romantic as a traditional wedding dress, with a golden twist. Love! Lela Rose, $3,995

Forget the fact that it requires the confidence of Angelina Jolie. You have to admit it's pretty incredible. Donna Karan, $2995

If I could do it all over again, I'd wear my white dress for the ceremony, and change into this for the reception. I'm kind of obsessed with it—and the price is amazing. Kauffman Franco, $1,498

And if you love gold but aren't feeling it for your gown,  you could always wear a white dress with really sick metallic shoes, like these. (They're on sale, too! Get 'em while they're hot!) Loeffler Randall, $239
