As a former retail editor, I am obsessed with finding magical places to shop. And hunting for a wedding dress should be the most special shopping event of your life. At the ideal boutique, the consultants should be helpful and encouraging but honest when it counts, the mirrors and lighting should help reflect the most beautiful version of you, and above all there should be Champagne!
One of my favorite places to send brides when I lived and worked in Minneapolis was L’atelier Couture, a boutique in the charming Cathedral Hill neighborhood of Minneapolis’s “twin city” St. Paul. Not only did owner Amanda Kautt carry some of the best couture dress designers (Peter Langner, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang, Elizabeth Fillmore, and Lela Rose to name a few) but it was also just a calm and lovely place to be. Even when I helped a girlfriend find her wedding dress during a sample sale the service was unhurried and dotting.
This past December Amanda Kautt moved her boutique across the river to Minneapolis into a vast new warehouse space. If you are a bride-to-be in the Upper Midwest area (or really anywhere for that matter) you should definitely stop into the boutique for the open house January 13-15. Italian bridal designer Peter Langner will be on hand along with trunks of his best gowns and brides can also visit with and receive information from a few of the Twin Cities’ top weddings vendors including Paperista, Cocoa & Fig, Just Bloomed, Liz Banfield, Style-Architects and more.
