A recent road trip along the California coast made me adjust my standards for sunsets. After seeing the sun pull down an ombré screen of pinks, purples, and reds as it sank into the ocean, I became very, very spoiled. I saw firsthand why tiny Big Sur, California is such a popular destination wedding spot—there's no better backdrop for you nuptials.
Though I wasn't attending a wedding, I stumbled onto the Ventana Inn's ceremony site. It was the best vantage that I found for watching the sunset, so naturally it's a breathtaking site for a wedding. There's a fragrant garden nearby that catches the last of the sun's rays (lavender plants seem to glow neon), and the hotel is full-service, offering luxury rooms and cottages, a spa, and restaurant.

If you decide to go, be sure to also look into the Post Ranch Inn, a string of cottages set along the cliffs. (It's directly across the street from the Ventana Inn.)
