Etiquette: Tony Romo's Epic Wedding Registry

Posted by

A friend just sent me this blog post about Tony Romo and Candice Crawford's wedding wish list (the couple was married over the weekend). Their registry was apparently massive, with items raging in price from less than a dollar (weird, right?) to just under $600. The only thing is, they're celebrities. With tons of money. Which leads me to this question: If you're a gazillionare, should you still register for wedding presents?

  • i'm sort of anti-registry even for us "regualar" folk. my BF and i are working professionals, who live together-- we have everything we need. if someone wanted to give us a present, we would just say thanks! and if they want ideas, that's what my mom is for.

  • I think it's actually thoughtful! I know some gift-givers who llllove to really know what you like and want. ...and free-spirits aren't required to follow a registry.

I also love the range. I'm sure not everyone they invited is rich, right? ...$1 items say "we're not too serious about this list, have some fun."

But hey, I'm no etiquette expert.

  • This reminds me of Russell Brand and Katy Perry, who announced that they weren't registering, and that if anyone wanted to know what to give them, they were going to say, "We can buy our own stuff--we're celebrities, we're rich! Give something to a charity in our name."

For ordinary people, I think registries are actually helpful. But for these people . . .

Well, you notice William and Kate didn't register--they too suggested charities.

  • I think it's perfectly fine they registered for gifts. Celebrities suggesting charity donations is great, but maybe they know some of their family members who'd like to give them something more traditional and personal. Giving guests the chance to give something the couple will use forever (be it a $6 gravy boat or whatever!) might mean more to the guest buying the gift.

  • I think if people wants to give gifts then it's cool. It even more thoughtful to if they ask you what they want.

  • Well, at least the guests have an idea of what to get them if they want to take a gift! (What do you buy a celebrity anyway?) And from what you said about their registry, the guests can spend under a dollar if they want!
