Event Design: Barn Wedding, Part 1

Posted by

Barns and rustic venues are some of my favorite spaces to work with, but as we all know, they can be hard to find. The following photos, taken at Shadow Lawn in High Falls, New York by the talented Jonas Peterson, are from a beautiful wedding. For these types of affairs, I love creating a laid-back elegance by mixing in glamorous details like whimsical light fixtures and old silver.

I love this image of the bride and groom walking into the barn to greet their guests.

We used long, vintage wooden farm tables and accented the space with chandeliers.

For locations such as these, outdoor lighting is just as important as the ambient light inside the barn. The string lights were festive but also practical, illuminating the cocktail area for guests.

  • Hello,
We are an outdoor and indoor Barn Wedding venue in Leavenworth, Washington located on 22 private acres that I wanted to share with you! We are nestled between mountain ranges, meadows, rivers and fields in a county oasis. Our lush manicured lawns back dropped by the Cascade Mountains are the perfect place to say "I Do" and couples can retreat to the 1944 dairy barn for their reception where all the amenities are included from tables, linens and chairs to silverware, dishes and stemware. Once the festivities are over the wedding party and guests can retreat to our beautiful bed and breakfast with 6 luxurious cabin suites inspired by the Pacific Northwest. Each suite is complete with 2 person Jacuzzi spa, river rock fireplace and hand crafted pine log beds.

  • This is gorgeous! I love the feel and look of backyard barn weddings:-) So rustic and fun!

  • My hubby-to-be and I are getting married on June 11, 2011 at a beautiful barn in North Carolina just outside of Raleigh. When we saw Shady Wagon Farm instantly fell in love with the site and with each other all over again. The wedding is going to have a very Vintage-Rustic feel to it. Here's an inspiration board I put together on my blog: http://bit.ly/iaoHAn

  • We are having a barn wedding in Sonoma California can't wait!

  • We are having a barn reception after our wedding on September 3. My favorite design detail will definitely be our tables. We are using the extra large spools that power line wire comes on and using hay bales as the seating!

  • We are having our wedding at an historic farm manor in November. Great post! We're not vintage, but we love the rustic side. We're focusing on minimalist, deep earth tones, etc... There will be wheat stalks! I totally agree too with the outdoor lighting. The venue already has outdoor string lights, and I was hoping to add even more with lanterns. We're doing an outdoor ceremony and an open "barn" style ballroom reception. The biggest challenge I overcame with the help of this venue was that we have a lot of older family members, and unfortunately, I couldn't just go to any barn and set up a wedding. This place is rustic while being accessible to everyone. For any PA brides who may be interested, the venue is Riverdale Manor. I highly recommend it!!
