The most important advice I can give to a bride is to never make her own wedding cake (even I didn't!). Both the day before and the day of the ceremony, there is already so much to do. Why burden yourself with the task and stress of creating such an important confection?! Let someone else handle it. It's your special day, so take that time and spend it with your friends and family.
Baking cookies is another story. These handy treats are becoming quite popular at weddings because of their convenience. Dough can usually be made in advance and kept frozen or refrigerated. When the time is ripe, spoon it out onto baking sheets and pop them in the oven.

There are so many ways cookies can fit into your wedding. Offer them with coffee upon your dinner's conclusion. Include them in a dessert buffet. Serve them up, late-night-snack style, with a cup of cold milk. Or, toss a couple in a sheer pouch for a tasty wedding favor.
