I'm an East-Coast girl through and through, but that doesn't mean I can't dip my toe in the water of another fabled shoreline. Seattle often gets overlooked in talks about the West Coast, but I can't imagine why. It seems like the perfect place to camp out for the weekend -- the right mix of industrial-chic with a down-to-earth, natural vibe -- and it's not just because the latest installment of Twilight partially takes place there.
There's whale watching in the Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains in the background, maybe the best coffee in the country, and, despite the much talked about rain, the weather is actually pretty nice. Coming from a city that seriously undervalues its riverside real estate, I'd love to stay at the eco-friendly Edgewater Hotel, right on Elliott Bay. Now through September 30th, they're hosting what they call the "Green Backs Give Back" special package, where paying just $1.00 over the regular room rate gets you overnight valet parking, breakfast for two at their gourmet restaurant, or a complimentary upgrade to the next room tier. There's also a lovely ballroom overlooking the water, which seems like a gorgeous setting for a wedding.
Is anyone holding a destination wedding, honeymoon, or mini-moon in Seattle? If so, what was it about the city that drew you to it?

A lot of our Australian couples are heading over to America - we can now recommend this site!

My husband and I got married there in June 2010. I saw photos of the hotel online before I moved to Seattle, and it was the first location we looked at to hold the ceremony and reception. The staff is truly exceptional and we felt VERY taken care of, from the sales people, to the banquet manager, and all of the hotel staff - they were more than kind and accomodating. It was important to us that our guests (most of which were visiting from other states) get a feeling of "true Seattle"... and this hotel delivers. We didn't need much decoration, as the ballroom with floor to ceiling windows facing the water was Mother Nature in all her glory, and the rooms are simply beautiful with hard woods, large chandeliers and "modern but rustic Northwest" decor. The food is amazing, we've eaten at the restaurant before, and our reception dinner was superb. Everyone had a great time, can't say enough wonderful things about The Edgewater!!
