Etiquette: Put the Groom's Name on the Shower Invite?

Posted by

The following question popped up in our AskMartha mailbox: (You can send questions there, too!)

Do you put the groom's name on a bridal shower invitation?

There are definitely reasons to include it.

-The bride's favorite cousin may never have actually been told the groom's last name, back when he was the new boyfriend. (And by the time he was the permanent boyfriend, she felt stupid to ask.) Does she need to know it? It might help!

-If someone wants to write a note on the gift ("hope you and John enjoy this"), they might like to know how he spells his name.

-Knowing the couple's full names might help people find a registry.

So, while there's no firm answer either way, it certainly makes sense to include it.

Do you think it would help your family and friends to include his name on the shower invite? Do you think it's weird to include his name?

  • I feel like it is polite gesture for members of the groom's family who are invited to the shower to include the groom's name.
