It's a stereotype, almost -- the parents of the bride (or the groom!) want to pad the guest list with all their friends and business associates, some of whom their child has never even met.
Apparently, Chelsea Clinton didn't have this problem. The evidence? She didn't invite her mother's boss, even if he is the president of the United States.
When President Obama appeared on The View this week, he revealed that he and his wife were not invited to Chelsea's wedding.
Why not? Well, here's the probable explanation: Hillary Clinton told NBC's Andrea Mitchell that the only people invited are people that her daughter knows, and who have "been meaningful in her life," according to USA Today. Though Chelsea surely must have met the Obamas, they apparently didn't meet that qualification (even though Steven Spielberg does, as do more than 400 other people).
I admit, I had expected the First Couple to have been invited, if only for tactical reasons. But it is Chelsea's celebration, and I for one applaud the Clintons for following her lead in this matter. (Given how gregarious her dad is, can you imagine what the list would be like if he'd made the decisions? That would be a 1,200-person wedding!)
Who's on your guest list because your parents want them there? Did you struggle with pressure to put your mother's coworkers on it?

I do agree no matter how famous the parents are or the boss is. It really needs to Chelsea's decision on guests.
