In the spirit of the latest DIY-devoted issue of Weddings, I wrote a pretty extensive piece on road trip honeymoons that's bound to get your heart racing. (Seriously, I'm still reeling from it!) In it, I detailed four enticing itineraries in some of the world's most romantic locations, so in the next few weeks I thought I'd give you all a sneak peek at four of the amazing hotels that were featured as stops on the trail. Since Cara chronicled her experience at Milliken Creek Resort and Spa a few weeks ago, I thought I'd offer up a look at the Royal Horseguards, a five-star hotel in London.
Just a short (read three minutes) walk from bustling Trafalgar Square, the Strand, and Covent Garden, the Royal Horseguards Hotel has more to boast about than its location. Housed in the former home of Scotland Yard, this historic landmark oozes classic British charm against a modern setting. I was fortunate enough to visit this towering spot along the Thames when I went to London with friends last January, and I can tell you that it was everything I expected and more. The room was cozy (thanks to Egyptian cotton linens), well-appointed, and tech savvy, with an ipod-docking station, surround sound, and flat-screen televisions in the bedroom and bathroom! And the afternoon tea, complete with scones and white-gloved butler service, was the highlight of my trip, and, despite the name, anyone who doubts the deliciousness of clotted cream is seriously mistaken!
There are also beautifully historic rooms in which to hold your wedding ceremony and reception at One Whitehall Place, just next door. The decor is richly dignified, with intricate faience tiling, perfect wood molding, and sky-high ceilings, and a wine cellar and terrace perfect for smaller engagements.
If you find yourself in London, whether you're planning a destination wedding or kicking back during your honeymoon, I absolutely insist you stay at this hotel!
