Behind the Scenes: Summer DIY Style

Posted by Shira Savada

The "Center of Attention" DIY Style story in our summer issue was a fun one to put together. Its working title was "Tablescapes," and the concept was to create unique settings and centerpieces that are easy and fun to reproduce. We loved thinking about ways to jazz up a table that went above and beyond floral arrangements, which has often been a concern for many of you.

There were -- and typically always are for every story (and wedding) -- many incarnations of this story. At least half a dozen ideas were developed but never shot. In the end, we chose the final four because they can easily shift to suit specific color palettes, personalities, and venues.

Because it was a DIY story, we took a field trip to craft supply mecca Michaels. Britni and I journeyed down every aisle for inspiration while picking up supplies like spray paint, embroidery hoops, and yarn.

I didn't know Vanna had a line of yarn until this field trip. How come she doesn't wear her knitted pieces on Wheel of Fortune?

And because it's a behind the scenes post, here are some shots from the photo shoot.
