Sandals Wedding: Beauty Tips

Posted by Darcy Miller

We're busy working on the Sandals Wedding by Martha Stewart which is happening this week at the new Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamasa.  The winning couple, Liz and Colin were chosen from hundreds of couples who  submitted 90-second videos explaining why they should win the Sandals Wedding by Martha Stewart. This week we'll be bringing you details from Exuma, and don't forget to check out our special destination issue (out on October 4, 2010) where we'll be featuring the full wedding.

Jerami Brown of Paul Labrecque came down to Exuma with us as our hair stylist. He did my hair for my editors letter photo for our special destination issue. His luggage was unfortunately lost by the airline (which by the way is why you shouldn't check your wedding dress for a destination wedding). So he did not have any of his own hair styling supplies. Luckily, Sandal's beautiful Red Lane Spa had everything he could ever need. You should see this spa, it's beautiful! (it's also nice when picking a location for a destination wedding to pick a place that has a great gym and spa not only for the beauty services for your bridal party, but also for your guests). We will definitely be back here with Liz and her bridal party later.

Jerami was nice enough to share some hair tips with me, plus I'm with him for next two days so send me any questions you have for him. He says the best advice for destination wedding hair is to work with your natural texture. So if you have a curl or wave to your hair, doing a soft beachy wave will work the best. That being said -- if you do want to try to keep it straight he advises a great straightening balm like Paul Labrecque's "straight-style". It's a humidity control mist so it keeps your hair from frizzing without being a sticky spray, also it helps your style last. If you have curly hair use a conditioner that has a lot of aloe vera -- milk or egg proteins -- if you're doing a style that involves a "coiff" or updo, a low chignon is a great option. And remember it's better for hair to be a bit dirty (not gross dirty -- but just not washed the day of) because slightly dirty hair holds better.

Make up artist, Daisy also of the Paul Labrecque Salon says to make your wedding makeup look its best you should follow these tips. Drinks lots of water (especially the night before your big day), hydrate your skin always, but especially the day before.  She recommends either a Neutrogena oil control or Cle de Peau balancing lotion. Use a great primer for your eyes and your face (Benefit makes a great eye primer) and if you get a blemish -- make sure to get a really good concealer (that you finish off with some pressed powder). Also, don't forget to have your eyebrows groomed (ideally in the months leading up to your wedding) -- but also two days before the big day (better not to do any beauty treatment the day of. This includes applying self tanner, waxing, etc. Although I think  a massage is a great treatment to get the day of (or the day before). I did that the morning of my wedding and it was a great way to have an hour alone and calm down before a very chaotic and exciting day.
