For me, inspiration often comes from the most unexpected of places. Utilitarian school and office supplies -- vintage graph paper, paper clips, rulers, chalkboards -- can be surprisingly chic thanks to their paired-down proportions and spare aesthetic. So why not style your wedding with all kinds of mundane office items that truly shine when given a new background?
Take a look at this stationery suite from Minhee and Truman’s wedding. It’s a great example of how elevated a suite can feel by mixing and matching functional schoolhouse paper goods. Or try using fun office label stickers to package your favors, like the ones used by Randi and Jacob on their mix cds send-offs. And why not let a chalkboard play a role in your day? You could use it for directional signage ( as in “park here” or “wedding this way”), or you could even use it as a guest book idea. And don't forget the beauty of utilitarian objects.
Case in point: this fantastic hat will shield you from the sun, AND make you look totally fantastic! What everyday objects are you repurposing for your wedding?

this is tempting to me b/c in Autumn 2011 my fiancee and i are planning an outdoor wedding, during which he'll be sporting his USMC dress blues. i'm having a fit right now trying to figure out which colors for the wedding won't clash with his uniform. it would probably be easier if all his groomsmen were in the Marines, too, but they aren't and will all be wearing regular black suits. do you have any suggestions for bridesmaids dresses/flowers/etc. colors? i was thinking right now yellow or a deep marine blue.
thanks and cheers,

hi heather,
i think you're on the right track with yellow or deep marine blue, but you could also consider incorporating neutrals which might help you out. for example, your bridesmaids could wear a pale grey/silver and carry yellow or ivory bouquets. if the wedding is outdoors you might also want to keep in mind the colors that will naturally be in your photos, like the green of the grass or tans if there is sand - this might help you choose your bridesmaids colors as well.
i hope this is helpful,
lauren
