Makeup Tips from Our Style Network Shoot

Posted by

Yesterday we kicked off our wedding planning with the winner of our Sandals Wedding by Martha Stewart Contest. Take a look at a video clip of when the winner was announced and the finalists' fun video submissions. The day started with some hair and makeup -- not that we get coiffed for meetings here at Martha Stewart Weddings -- but after all the Sandals wedding is going to be featured as a Style Network special (to air this fall when their wedding is featured in our next destination wedding issue).

Daisy from the Paul Labrecque was our beauty expert -- and what an expert she is. (By the way you can also book her and many other experts at Paul Labrecque Salon for your own wedding.) A great tip is to do a makeup trial well before the wedding so that if you don't love the look you have time to try someone else, but I have to say I LOVED what Daisy did. I didn't want to take it off when I went to sleep. And by the way, like many wedding vendors you should have good chemistry with the person. The makeup artist is "in your face" so make sure they make you feel relaxed and don't have an attitude.

Daisy was great, she ended doing makeup for everyone at the shoot and although she  was totally cool with it, she said she always gets booked for the bride and then the bridesmaids end up wanting powder, lipstick etc. If your budget permits, its a good idea to have the artist bring an assistant for similar situations. Or another great idea for your mother, maid of honor, or bridesmaids is to get them a makeup lesson before the big day -- Daisy does this a lot. And why not add the lipstick, blush, etc. from their appointment as a bonus gift?

Daisy says everyone should have a great concealer and eye cream -- they're a must. Her faves are Cle de Peau and Nars.  Another trick is a simple white eye liner to make the eye pop. She uses one by Makeup Forever.
