Even though I'm surrounded by weddings day in and day out, I admit that I'm still kind of baffled by save-the-date cards. What are they? Why send them? Do they have to match the invitation suite you haven't yet picked out? (Feel free to chime in here at any time.) So I did a little research.
Save the dates let your guests know when your wedding will be way in advance, so they can be sure to do just that. They're usually best for weddings being held on a holiday weekend or a destination wedding that requires a lot of planning beforehand. Though increasingly popular among the bridal set, save the dates can be but don't have to be part of the invitation suite. Think of them as an accessory: they can match the suite perfectly, or they can be bold and add a little more oomph (or you don't need one at all). That said, I think the most interesting save the dates are the ones that are slightly quirky and don't necessarily match. You can still have a really formal suite and a really playful save the date. Which do you prefer?
I also really like ones that have a photo of the happy couple on them, but I couldn't find a good enough picture. If you have one, I'd love to see it!
